In the 2020 United States National Elections voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for the President of the United States, all 435 members of the United States House of Representatives, and 35 United States Senators. Ensuring you are registered and casting your ballot is important during these unprecedented times.

We have provided step-by-step instructions with hyperlinks to help residents of Hampton Roads to vote safely and securely.  Virginia has both Early In-Person and Mail-In Ballot voting options which you may choose to use.

How to Vote

  1. FIRST ENSURE YOUR REGISTRATION IS UP-TO-DATE and REGISTER, IF NEEDED 
    Registration Deadline is October 13th

      Check Your Registration Status Online 

  2. DECIDE IF YOU WILL VOTE IN-PERSON OR BY MAIL AND CAST YOUR VOTE.

  3. YOU MAY VOTE EARLY AND YOU MAY VOTE IN-PERSON.

A. Vote Early In-Person:

Starting September 18 through October 31, at your Registrar’s Office.
Registration Deadline is October 13th

B. Vote by Mail Absentee Ballot:

This Absentee Ballot can be requested now, and no excuse is needed.
Deadline to request Ballot is October 23rd.

      1. Absentee Ballots will be mailed out beginning September 18th.

      2. After receiving the Absentee Ballot you still have the option to Vote In-Person by taking the unopened Ballot to your Registrar’s Office and surrendering it.

      3. Otherwise, you may carefully fill it out and mail it by October 15th or you may deliver it in person at your local Voter Registrar’s office by October 31st.

C. Vote on Election Day In-Person:

Tuesday, November 3rd at your designated Polling Place.  
Registration Deadline is October 13th

The Candidates you may see on your ballot for Hampton Roads are listed below.  Remember, you may also write-in a candidate of your choice.

Reminder: Even if you voted for a candidate in a Primary you are not required to vote for the same candidate in the General Election.
